St Michael’s Boys told:

Some valuable advice for the children of St Michael’s School for Boys — “never ever give up on your dreams” — was given by Digicel’s Human Resources director, Shane Ram and David Rudder at a recent visit to the school.

Digicel donated 12 mattresses to the school and during the handing over, Ram pledged the company’s continued support to the school, noting that “the establishment is on a consistent path to positively influence the lives of young men.”

The school was established in 1894 and since then has served as a means of rehabilitation for boys between the ages of ten and 18. Digicel’s relationship with the school began last year, and has resulted in the school benefiting from the company’s community outreach programme.

Ram had some further advice for the youngsters at St Michael’s, “As young men there are lots of challenges in front of you; however, none are insurmountable. There are many people in society who have overcome the odds and made something of themselves.” “No better example than calypsonian David Rudder, ” he said.

Rudder meanwhile told the students, “I hope that one day I could walk into corporate and government offices and see some of you. Whether you become musicians, lawyers or doctors, at the end of the day I wish that everyone of you could some day step out of your surroundings and look back at your past as a learning experience,” he said.

Rudder has maintained a relationship with the St Michael’s School for several years.

Ram left the youngsters with some parting words, “there is a bright future in front of you,” he said and “Digicel will continue to do as much as possible to contribute to society in order to shape your lives and the lives of many others.”
