TT junior golfers dethroned

The hosts eased to victory with 160 points. Trinidad and Tobago, the 2004 and 2005 champs, were a distant second with 125.5 points.

Bahamas placed third with 115 points, ahead of Jamaica, 106, Dominican Republic, 100.5, Barbados, 86, United States Virgin Islands, 45.5, Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), 16, and Cayman Islands, 8.5.

Trinidad and Tobago claimed the top two places in the Girls’ 16-18 age group, with Martine De Gannes tallying a score of 240 for the Cesar Rivera Trophy, with compatriot Tracey Clarke next on 255 and Puerto Rico’s Lydia Benitez third on 257.

Johnny Widmer of the Cayman Islands lifted the James Moss-Solomon Trophy as the winner of the Boys’ 16-18 category with a tally of 230, ahead of Puerto Rico’s Rafa Campos (231) and Jamaica’s Kemar Brown (234), while TT’s Robert Llanos was fifth with 237, Kerville Cowie 10th with 247 and Kyle Knaggs joint 14th with 256.

Puerto Rico were one-two in the Girls’ 13-15, with Patricia Garcia claiming the Kenneth N Francis Trophy with 243, Kyle Roig second with 254 and TT’s Monifa Sealy third with 264 and her teammate Kelsey Lou-Hing fourth with 266.

Similarly, the hosts took the top two spots in the boys’ equivalent, as Javier Godoy lifted the Arturo Pellerano Trophy with 226, ahead of Robert Calvesbert 229 and Wilson Rancier of Dominican Republic 230.

Sirron Melville was seventh with 245, Timothy Martin joint eighth with 249 and Mikhail Roberts 13th with 258.

In the Girls’ 12-and-under, Maria Torres of Puerto Rico walked away with the John Fitzgerald Harewood Trophy after amassing 119 (the golfers played nine holes per day), while Trinidadian Anneke Ward was the runner-up with 124, Puerto Rico’s Paola Robles 128 and TT’s Natalya Rahamatula fourth with 139.

And, in the Boys’ 12-and-under division, Puerto Rico’s Gabriel Martinez and Barbados’ Warren Bynoe were joint winners of the Bob Slatter Trophy with 240, one point ahead of Puerto Rico’s Jose Rodriguez, while TT’s Robert Boocock (281) and Alexander Charles (290) were 10th and 13th respectively.
