Shameful Zidane

He does not deserve the award for such disgraceful behaviour. I don’t care how many goals he scored or games his team won. We need standards of behaviour in all aspects of life, sport being no exception. Nor was that all. At the presentation of medals, the coach of the French team took off his medal immediately and buried it in his coat pocket — an expression of disgust. Several of his team did the same.

A medal, gold, silver or bronze should be worn with honour not discarded into a pocket. Giving Zidane the Golden Boot is a clear indication of the way standards have fallen worldwide. Even if the award had been voted on by journalists before Sunday’s incident, Zidane should have been disqualified.
