No bail for alleged car thief

Ryan-Mc Nicolls is the wife of the nephew of Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicolls. The incident allegedly took place on July 4, at Southern Main Road in Plaisance Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.

The police allege the accused drove off with the car Ryan-Mc Nicolls had parked in front of a supermaket in Plaisance Park, Pointe-a-Pierre. The charge stemmed from an incident in which Chief Magistrate Mc Nicolls’ daughter — Shermaine scampered out of the car while it was allegedly being stolen.

The accused, was arrested on Sunday and charged by PC Bruce of the St Margaret’s Police Station. After reading the charge of larceny of a motor vehicle, magistrate Dhamanie informed Assoon that he would not be called upon to enter a plea since the charge was laid indictable. Prosecutor Sgt Joey Samaroo objected to bail being granted to the accused on the ground that he had five pending matters in court for firearm related offences.

Assoon, who was not represented by an attorney asked the magistrate for a speedy start to the case. After denying Assoon bail, the magistrate advised him of his right to apply to a Judge in Chambers for bail.

The matter was then adjourned to July 21.
