Emily’s granny in court as witness

Emily’s stepfather, Marlon King, 33, of Marabella, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington charged with her murder on May 15.

Yesterday, state prosecutor Chris Seelochan told Wellington that 20 witnesses were listed to give evidence in the preliminary inquiry. Of the 20, Emily’s grandmother Chandradaye Basdeo and two other witnesses, Annette Jattan and police draftsman PC Woods, were in court.

Seelochan requested a short adjournment but told the magistrate if the court wanted to begin, he would start. Wellington replied that he did not want to have another long part-heard matter before him.

The magistrate stood the matter down to await the arrival of King’s attorney, El Farouk Hosein.

When the case resumed, El Farouk Hosein suggested it be adjourned to July 20, for the prosecution to put its house in order.

Wellington agreed and adjourned the case to that date for mention. Basdeo and the other witnesses were informed by the magistrate that the police complainant, PC Hamilton, will contact them when they are needed in court.
