Republic swipes visa card in Guyana

It is the only bank in Guyana to offer the card and follows in the footsteps of its parent company, Republic Bank Limited, in introducing the debit card which has generally been well-received by customers.

The VTM is a prepaid value card that offers an enhanced level of convenience to travellers who require easy access to their funds and travel related expenses, along with the benefits of a favourable exchange rate.

Managing Director, Republic Bank (Guyana), Michael Archibald said, “ New aspects of banking are unfolding in Guyana, and it is exciting to know that Republic Bank is at the forefront of this new era.” Archibald said that the move is in keeping with the bank’s commitment to pioneering the Guyanese banking sector, all the while improving the livelihood of customers and the general public. In his address he keyed into the need for a strong vibrant financial sector and strong vibrant institutions as being necessary for any country to progress.

The VTM card allows for easy access to funds when abroad at ABM’s in the local currency without the hassle of having to change money and can be used in several ways — for business travel, shopping, or to send money to family or friends abroad. The VTM card is accepted at more than 627,000 ATMs in more than 120 countries around the world and throughout the network of stores that carry the Visa logo.

The initiative marks the first in a series and will be followed by subsequent launches in other regional subsidiaries in Grenada and Barbados later this year.
