Living Water dinner to keep projects going

To continue funding for this and other projects the community will hold a major fund-raising dinner on July 22 at the Crowne Plaza hotel, Port-of-Spain.

The St Joseph’s Home Project which began last year provides the materials needed to build the homes for needy families. The construction of the homes is done by members of the community themselves.

The homes are usually built in remote areas where families own their land but simply do not have the resources to construct proper housing. By assisting in the construction of the houses Living Water hopes to provide a sense of “stability and security” for these families.

Funds raised from the dinner, which is being held in collaboration with E Pizzazz, will go towards some 14 projects and various NGOs which are assisted by the Living Water Community.

Bianca Browne and Venance Yearwood, associates of E Pizzazz, came up with the idea for the fund-raising dinner because of their desire to “give back” to the community.

Lilias Milne and David Bibby, active members of Living Water, said that even though many people know about the community, they are not aware of the magnitude of work that it undertakes. To heighten awareness of those programmes, a special presentation will be made at the dinner.

In order to achieve maximum mileage for its projects, Living Water is asking corporate citizens to not only purchase dinner tickets as a donation but to attend the dinner with their families.

In this way sponsors can get first-hand knowledge of the community’s work. This is one of the reasons why the dinner’s theme is “Love is Sharing,” the members said. Living Water is also appealling for more volunteers as the programmes require not only funding but also “hands and hearts.”

The projects which require continuous support and funding, which are often very difficult to provide, include the Marion House; New Life Ministries Drug Prevention Centre; Fountain of Hope; Vision of Hope; the Ave Maria House; the Poor Ministry: Food Bank and Food Distribution; Trinity Communications Network; the Catering Ministry; Nazareth House; Rainbow House; Mercy Home; Our Lady of the Wayside; the Hospice and the St Joseph’s Home Project.

Dinner costs $875 a ticket and includes dinner, wine and live entertainment by Bernice Yearwood of the Lydians, Sandra Hamilton and a string quartet. Tickets are available at Living Water Community Centre, Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain and through associates of E Pizzazz Events.
