Afraid to come home

I expect to visit Trinidad this year, together with my family, who are all foreigners. I read daily about all the crimes in Trinidad and Tobago. To me, it seems that the government is not doing anything whatsoever to reduce crime. Do they know how many tourists, who would like to come to Trinidad, but are afraid because of the crime situation? Do they know how much income they are losing daily because tourists are afraid to come?
