Powell boosts TT in Twenty/20

The Jamaica-born Powell is expected to add some well-needed explosive power to the TT batting line-up.

When on top of his game, the 27-year-old Powell has the ability to score very quickly and demolish bowling attacks.

Early in his international career, Powell lashed a blistering century that helped West Indies beat India by four wickets in the Coca-Cola Singapore Cup final in September 1999.

He smashed 124 off only 93 balls, hitting nine fours and eight sixes as the Windies successfully chased a target of 255 at the Kallang Ground in Singapore.

Powell, who has played two Tests and 109 One-Day Internationals for the West Indies, migrated from Jamaica a few years ago. He now lives in Trinidad and Tobago and represents the twin-island republic in regional competition.

The TT team played the first of two warm-up matches against St Lucia Saturday night at the Beausejour Stadium and although Powell only made 17, visiting TT won by 64 runs.

The second warm-up match between TT and St Lucia was played yesterday evening.

TT play their first Stanford Twenty/20 match on July 25 against the Cayman Islands.
