DOOKERAN HITS UNC EXECUTIVE

“That is not where I want to be. I want to lead a party that is prepared for governance, and that will deliver to the population a better quality of life, free from discrimination of any sort,” stated Winston Dookeran Political Leader of the UNC. At the time he was addressing a Saturday night Cottage Meeting on Cumberland Street, Couva, as part of his strategy to meet the rank and file of the UNC and educate them about the Constitution of the UNC.

He said, “They (the National Executive) have shown littleness and smallness of mind.

They are behaving in a frivolous fashion, accusing me of organising a parallel group, because I am meeting you the rank and file of the party. This is my right as political leader and none of them can tell me what to do as your leader.”

He told the cheering gathering that “out of the UNC we could create a new Party, to inspire the wider society, a new movement , but not outside of the Party but out of the Party; we must broaden it and expand it and move ahead.” He stressed, “that is how we have to do it.”

He said he was advised to take legal action “but in matters of politics law has no place.

It is a matter for the people and the people’s will and I rely on the intelligence, commitment and understanding of the people.”
