Missing man turns up dead

Ramkissoon of Mora Drive, Sou Sou Lands in Penal, disappeared on July 2 and last Friday, his partially decomposed corpse was discovered in a shallow grave in a forested area at seven mile mark, Penal Rock Road.

Police sources who visited the scene, said Ramkissoon’s head was burnt, his body bore blue-black marks believed to have been caused from beatings and a piece of cloth was tied around his neck.

Sources said the man’s face was barely recognisable and his father Sookram had to make a positive identification by the clothes his son was wearing.

Grieving relatives said they were told by police that the advanced state of decomposition suggested Ramkissoon may have been dead for at least four days.

When Newsday visited the house of mourning yesterday, Ramkissoon’s mother Savitri was inconsolable. Through her sobs she wondered aloud at the amount of torture meted out to her son before he was killed.

“God alone knows who did this to him and why this had to happen,” the mother of seven wailed. Ramkissoon worked with a contractor building NHA houses in Couva. He was unmarried and did not have any children.

Last Friday, police questioned three men from Penal in connection with the incident and up to late yesterday, one of the suspects remained in police custody.

Relatives said Ramkissoon and his brother Bharath Balkissoon were threatened with death last year.

Ramkissoon went missing after visiting his brother Khemraj at his (the brother) home at ten mile mark in Penal Rock Road on July 2. Khemraj told Newsday that Ramkissoon “had a few drinks” the last time he saw him (Ramkissoon).

The body is now at the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park, St James where an autopsy has been scheduled for today.
