Helping the home project

Jackman said that in the discharge of her duties she has had to visit the poor and destitute on a frequent basis. She said that the conditions that some people had to live in were “deplorable and sub-human.

“Some people only have some sheets of galvanise and the bare earth for their floor and this is the condition in which they are living,” she said. She encouraged the audience to see Christ in the face of every person who was unable to help themselves. She said that the organisation not only needed money but sustained encouragement and moral support.

The dinner, which was held at the Crowne Plaza ballroom, was hosted in conjunction with Evenement Pizzazz a recently established event planning and coordinating company. Bianca Browne, director of Evenement Pizzazz, said that her company was founded two months ago by four persons who share a common desire to be involved in activities and projects that would assist in improving the quality of life of the less fortunate in our society.

Browne said, “We felt that we could use the skills we possess in event management to raise funds to help others or assist others to raise funds to help themselves”.

When approached about assisting the Living Water Community she said they agreed, with very little persuasion, that this should be their first fund-raising effort.

“We cannot help everybody in need and yet we must aspire to bring the greatest possible light into darkness,” she said.

Entertainment on the night was provided by the Alternative Quartet and Sandra Hamilton.
