FIRE OFFICERS HONOURED

Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony held by the Northern Division of the TTFS on Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain Tuesday, Callender said “the TTFS was not only about fighting fires but also has under its belt other significant achievements.”

Callender said there is a TTFS Youth Club in Laventille, which he said is a place where youths in such “high risk” areas can gain discipline, respect and obedience. He said the club currently offers programmes in martial arts and football to the youths.

At the ceremony, certificates of appreciation and commemorative drinking glasses were presented by Acting Chief Fire Officer Noel Jones and Deputy Chief Fire Officer Carl Scipio to Fire Services Veteran Pioneers Lionel Renee, Gunness Lalla, Andrew Hackshaw and Alfred Maraj. Jones described 97-year-old Renee as the longest existing member of the fire services since 1926, when the Police and Fire Services operated as one unit.

Jones also presented certificates to TTFS personnel, Divisional Fire Officers Leslie Skeet and Keith Grace for their substantial growth and development since joining the service.
