Two more killed

Yesterday, two killings pushed the rate up to 225 — a day after the country recorded three murders within 24 hours.

Ramjit Boodram, 55, was yesterday’s first victim.

He died at his Dookeran Drive, Aranjuez home, at about 5.30 am, after a fight with a 27-year-old man. The suspect chopped Boodram several times before fleeing. An alarm was raised and officers of the Barataria Police Station responded to the call, but found Boodram dead. Investigators believe he bled to death.

After interviewing eyewitnesses, the police held a suspect, who has been handed over to homicide detectives.

The investigative team includes Inspector Abraham and PCs Ramnarine, Davidson and Rivers. Four hours later, cops found themselves busy again.

The second victim was Kevin Green, 36, who was shot dead, at about 9.30 am, as he walked to his Chinapoo Village, Morvant home. His bullet-riddled body was found under a mango tree. The police said Green was known to them. After a district medical officer viewed Green’s body it was taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St James.

Homicide officers expressed concern over the surge in killings between Saturday and yesterday. Eight people died in violent circumstances during that period, seven of them the result of shootings.
