Imbert: Rapid rail unit coming

Speaking at Thursday’s post-Cabinet news conference at Whitehall, Imbert said the ministry is shifting its focus from being an executing agency to an oversight entity and this was one of the reasons why the National Infrastructure Development Company was formed last year.

Stating that the plethora of transportation initiatives now being undertaken in TT require the creation of specialised oversight or implementation units in the ministry, Imbert said such a unit is being created for the rapid rail project in order to ensure that “the Government’s and the country’s interests are properly served.”

He also disclosed that the ministry has found a qualified TT national living overseas who has vast experience in the management of construction of rail projects and is in the final stages of “working out an arrangement to bring that person back to TT to help us.”
