Bhola dominant in Caribbean Scalextric

The TT squad edged Barbados for the overall title, with the Guyanese third and hosts Grenada fourth.

Three categories were contested by the drivers — the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 7 (rally cars), the Mercedes Benz SLR Mc Laren (endurance cars) and the Mc Laren Mercedes F1 (formula one cars).

Trinidad and Tobago’s Luke Bhola, competing in the 16-76 age group, was dominant in all three racing classes, defeating Charles Ozzy Osbourne of Barbados, Mark Phang of Guyana and Rhett Dopwell of Grenada. Bhola and Osbourne were locked with seven points apiece but Bhola prevailed with a superior lap count of 467.8 to Bhola’s 450.9.

The Under-16 age group saw Zico Callender of Barbados getting the better of Trinidad and Tobago’s Kathrine Lee-A-Ping with Guyanese Mikael Phang and Grenadian Sanyu Charles following.

Callender and Lee-A-Ping were both tied on points but Callender’s lap count of 230.5 was greater than Lee-A-Ping’s 227.7.Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada met in an Under-11 battle, with seven-year-old Reshad Deane claiming the gold medal with James Ferguson taking bronze.

Nickolai Ronalds and Lee- A-Ping took the first two places in the Under-16 while Rondell Hypolite and Jenelle Joseph collected gold and silver respectively in the Under-20.

The adults division saw Sayyad Khan winning gold and Marilyn Peters earning bronze while Joseph and Peters were the top two finishers in the women.

Peters eventually got gold in the Over-35, with Rawson Samuel the bronze medallist while Luke and Ramesh Bhola were one-two in the champion of champions division.

Luke Bhola also broke Junior Joseph’s regional record of 49 seconds twice in the modified car contest.

Using a modified Scalextric Peugeot, Bhola clocked 45 seconds in the third stage and 43 seconds in the final stage.
