Cops seize Coast Guard gun

The gun will be taken to the Forensic Science Centre today for a ballistic expert to carry out tests on the weapon as part of the investigation.

One of the two Coast Guard officers quizzed in connection with the shooting of Mohammed underwent a CT scan on Saturday.

He was treated for injuries to the head.

A release from the Acting Chief of Defence Staff, Colonel Edmund Dillon on Saturday night revealed that he has ordered an immediate investigation into the shooting of Mohammed by an individual of the Coast Guard patrol in the Port-of-Spain harbour on Friday night.

According to the release, the Coast Guard vessel was patrolling in the Port-of-Spain harbour when it saw and challenged a suspicious vessel.

The release added that the suspect vessel sped off and the Coast Guard patrol gave chase.

During the chase the suspect vessel attempted to ram the Coast Guard patrol vessel and in an effort to stop the suspect vessel, shots were fired.

The release added that one of the occupants of the suspect vessel was shot in the arm and head and subsequently died.

However, checks yesterday revealed that Mohammed is still alive and warded at the Intensive Care Unit of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

His wife Nalini Mohammed said that she spoke with one of the doctors attending to her husband and she was told that he has a very slim chance of survival.
