Second class, never again

The descendants of African slaves have made great strides in all fields and professions, like law, medicine, sport, politics and in many other areas.

History has shown and up to the present moment, Africans have been the victims of discrimination more than any other nation in history.

Despite this, politicians of African descent are in the forefront in seeing that no one, regardless of race is discriminated against.

Marcus Garvey the great Jamaican leader in a speech given in Harlem in the USA said: “Up you might race. It is only a question of a few more years when Africa will be completely colonised by Negroes as Europe is by the white race.

No one knows the hour when Africa’s redemption cometh. It is in the wind. It is coming one day like a storm it will be here.” Marcus Garvey at the height of discrimination against Africans in the US may have been over enthusiastic in his remarks, but he was simply making a point.

The progress made by descendants of Africans in all fields of endeavour must continue in order to keep pace with the progress of knowledge and be second to none. Africans should guard their hard earned freedom and see to it that they do not become second class citizens especially in the Caribbean ever again.
