Man sues for assault

Mc Laren, an employee of Junior Sammy Contractors Ltd, claimed he was assaulted and beaten by five men on the compound of Nu-Iron Trinidad and Tobago Company Ltd on November 28.

Mc Laren said he was contracted to work there as a steel-fitter and in his lawsuit, said he expressed dissatisfaction over safety measures at the company’s site during a meeting.

According to the claim filed in the Civil Court office in San Fernando, Mc Laren claimed he was then ordered off the site by a company official. Mc Laren stated in his lawsuit that when he tried to find out why he was being ordered off the compound, the company’s officials threatened to call security officers to forcibly remove him. Mc Laren stated in his writ that when the incident occurred, fellow workers rescued him.

As a result of the incident, Mc Laren stated in his lawsuit, he sustained injuries, suffered losses and damage and was unable to work since the incident.

According to a medical report by Dr Adesh Goolcharan of the Couva District Health Facility on December 13, 2005, Mc Laren suffered abrasions to the right hand, thumb, middle and little fingers.

Mc Laren’s lawsuit stated he sustained swelling to the forehead; soft tissue injury to the neck and soft tissue injury to the right shoulder. He is suing for damages for assault and battery; interest; costs and other relief the court may deem fit to award.

He has named defendants in the lawsuit as Daniel Dickey, Ryan Summers, Leslie Keen, Drews Scott and Egoro Jasprewski.
