Shot for ‘sooting’ girl
Arising out of the incident, police arrested 14 persons — nine women and five men — aged 17 to 27 all of El Socorro, San Juan. They were held shortly after the incident in a police roadblock in Debe.
During the exercise, police seized a Glock semi-automatic pistol with 12 rounds of live ammunition, a nine-millimetre pistol with six rounds of ammunition and a .38 revolver which was loaded with four rounds of ammunition. Police said the suspects were expected to be placed on several identification parades yesterday.
The shooting occurred at about 6 pm outside Baywatch Restaurant and Bar at Quinam Road Junction. According to a police report, several persons were travelling in a 12-seater maxi-taxi after leaving a beach party dubbed at Quinam Beach.
The report stated that as the maxi taxi pulled up at the Baywatch restaurant the victim who pulled up in a car, whistled at a young woman seated in the maxi taxi. An argument ensued between the victim and several occupants of the maxi taxi, during which several shots were fired.
A bullet struck the victim on the left foot. Minutes later, police who were on roadblock duty intercepted the maxi taxi at Debe Junction and seized the firearms and arrested the occupants.
