CJ goes to Privy Council

The Court Registrar now has to pass on the relevant documents to the Registrar at the Privy Council before the matter can be listed for hearing by the British Law Lords. Legal sources say the hearing could take place in the next two weeks. The appeal had been deemed fit to be heard during the vacation period of the Privy Council.

Queen’s Counsel Andrew Mitchell, a leading British lawyer, is expected to lead the CJ’s legal team in London. Mitchell was in Trinidad last week on other business, but took time to hold crucial discussions with the CJ’s local lawyers.

Although Sharma lost his appeal locally, the State gave the undertaking that no attempts would be made to arrest him.
