Teen student kidnapped

The kidnappers have demanded a $300,000 ransom for her safe release. According to police reports at about 6 pm, Alexander left home telling her mother Emily Delpino that she was going to a nearby outlet to rent some movies.

When she failed to return home, frantic checks were made for the missing student but to no avail.

At about 8 pm, Delpino received a telephone call from someone who claimed that Alexander was kidnapped. The caller demanded a ransom of $300,000.

Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad were called in and all attempts were made to locate the kidnapped student. Her family operates a grocery in Tunapuna. Relatives declined to be interviewed yesterday and added that they were advised not to speak with the media.

Alexander is the eight person to be kidnapped for ransom this year. On Wednesday, Police Commissioner Trevor Paul boasted that kidnappings were down by 80 percent. Investigations are continuing.
