Golden Gloves to honour HA Clarke

The 75 amateur boxers from 11 clubs will bid for gold, silver and bronze medals together with vouchers in 12 weight divisions ranging from pinweight to super heavyweight.

The event is organised by the TT Amateur Boxing Association (T&TABA) and Gold Medal Sports Company. Clubs taking part are Revival, Tigers, White Eagles and Sand City Gyms of Siparia, St Michael’s School For Boys, St Jude’s Home, the Youth Training Camp, Phoenix of Princes Town, Cosmic of Marabella, Biomel Gym of Arima and Defence Force to date.

The championship will crown the top boxer (male and female) both of whom will receive an award named after HA Clarke a former leading promoter, trainer and boxing administrator.

The outstanding coach of the championship will receive the Bertrand Legall Trophy named after the former national boxer and coach. The top male boxer will also receive the Gentle Daniel Trophy which is donated by the Adams and Daniel families in memory of the deceased boxers. The champion club will also get a lucrative voucher.

The championships which is supported by Gatorade, Courts TT Ltd and TTEC, will start at 6 pm on Friday.

Bell time is 4 pm on Saturday and on Sunday the finals will get going at 2 pm. Admission is $20 and children Under-12 years will be admitted free.
