Desert grab bgTT Tyro titles
The Desert women won the open league, “Big Four” and knockout titles, while Candice La Borde was voted “Player of the League” final and was rewarded with bmobile cellular telephone valued at $1,100.
In the league final Desert United scored a thrilling four-run victory over arch-rivals Rebirth.
The Desert women totalled 61 for four wickets in their 12 overs led by Viola Soungie who scored 20. Roxanne O’Brien took two wickets for 12 runs.
In their turn, Rebirth were restricted to 57 for nine wickets when their 12 overs ran out, despite a brilliant knock of 23 by Roxanne King. La Borde took three wickets for only four runs.
Winning the league title earned Desert United $1,000 and a trophy.
Desert United got $2,000 and a trophy for winning the “Big Four” series, while Rebirth received $1,200 and also a trophy.
And the Desert women also got $1,000 and a trophy for winning the knockout, beating T&T Ex-Nationals in the final.
Bestcrete overpowered Blazers by 30 runs to capture the men “Big Eight” title led by the bowling of Richard Morang who took three wickets for five runs, Leon Pollard two for five and Shane Sookdeo two for seven.
The Bestcrete men were bowled out for 72 in their 15 overs with only Keith Ramsaway getting 11. Kenny Williams took three for 13 and Pernell Joseph three for nine.
But Blazers could not cope with Morang, Pollard and Sookdeo and were routed for 42.
The victory earned Bescrete $1,500 and a trophy to tack on to their Group A league victory for which they got $1,000.
