King: Alcoa got invite to JSC sitting

Alcoa responded in a letter dated 4 August in which Alcoa president of primary metals development, Randall Overbey, claimed he had never received an invitation to attend the parliamentary JSC sitting. Overbey’s letter said: “Having checked at my office in Knoxville, Tennessee, Alcoa’s Trinidad registered office, and the Trinidad location of Alcoa Steamship Company Inc, an affiliated company, I can represent to you that Alcoa Trinidad did not receive a request or invitation to attend the meeting of the Joint Select Committee on August 2, 2006.”

But King yesterday told Newsday she had checked with Parliament and been told that an invitation had been sent out to Overbey. The three JSCs of Parliament act as a public watchdog on the functioning of public bodies, with their authority coming from the Constitution.
