Police arrest netball honours

They won the title over arch-rivals Defence Force with Fire finishing third in the top Pearl Francis Division in the just-ended season.

But the Army-Cost Guard women snatched the knockout title while Fire took the American-style tournament.

Policewoman Donna Elise Charles scored most goals — 251, with Tricia Liverpool next on 157 and Defence Force team-mate Lystra Zamore with 135. Defence Force also won the team shooting title ahead of Fire and CHIPS, but Simone Morgan (Fire) topped the individual shoots with team-mate Adasha Norton runner-up and Denise Rose (CHIPS) next.

Defence Force swept the honours in the Angela “Pinky” Drayton-Thomas “A1” Division, lifting the league title ahead of NFM Uppers and Arima Ball Masters, the knockout and American-style tournament.

And their Karlene Sylvester outscored her rivals with 219 goals. Next best was Debra Martin (NFM Uppers) on 200 and Stacy Ann Gill (Ball Masters).

Defence Force were also best shooting team ahead of Horizon, while Sylvester was the top individual shoot, Susan Squires (Horizon) runner-up and Melissa Snaggs (D/Force) next.

The league title in the Janet Bailey “A2” Division was won by SWWTU Malvern with Fire runners-up and Malta Carib Senators third.

The Malvern women also took the divisional knockout serie, but Fire won the American-style tournament.

Top shoot in the division was Cheryl Farris of Malta Carib Senators with 193 goals, ahead of Nariba Grant (Mucurapo Ex-Pupils) 158 and Margaret Jack (Jesters) 155. Mucurapo Ex-Pupils were best shooting team in this bracket with Fire runners-up and Harlem next.

June Bain (Harlem) was the top individual shoot, Grant was runner-up and Kathleen Antoine (Fire) third.

CHIPS completed a clean sweep in the Lady Erna Reece Intermediate Division 1, taking the league, knockout and American-style tournament titles.

And their Joelisa Cooper topped the scorers with 174 goals from Lavaughn O’Neil (Sparkles) 130 and Erica Job (Defence Force) 126.

But Defence Force were the best shooting team ahead of Police and CHIPS, while Job took the individual shooting honours followed by Cassie Ann James (CHIPS) and Cathy Ann Cain (Police).

Hampton were winners of the Phyllis Pierre-Walker Intermediate Division Two ahead of Transcend and Horizon, but Mucurapo Junior Secondary won both the American-style and knockout tournaments. The Hampton women won the best shooting team title from Mucurapo and Horizon, while their Cherryell McIntosh was top individual shoot followed by Jamelia Joseph (Mucurapo) and Aleena Brooks (Sparkles). Printery were crowned champions in the Barbara Chandleur “B1” Division and added the knockout. Runners-up Harlem were best shooting team and their Jillis Allan got the individual shooting honours ahead of team-mate Kefia Baptiste and Chrisandra Murrell (CHIPS), while Arima Ball Masters took the American-style series.

Most goals in the division — 99 — were scored by Renecia Delecia (Printery) Next was Allan 75 and Nailah Coltes (Transcend) 58. SWWTU Malvern took the league title in the Barbara Burnette “B2” Division ahead of Mucurapo Junior Secondary and San Juan Jabloteh.

But the Jabloteh women won both the American-style and knockout series.

Patrina Ashby (Malvern) topped the shooters with 102 goals, with Simone Bartholomew (Jabloteh) next and Angel St Clair (Soul City) with 59. Harlem were top shooting team ahead of Ball Masters and Sparkles and St Jude’s who were in a tie. The individual shooting title went to St Clair followed by Alaka Albert (Mucurapo) and Kalifa McCollin (Soul City).

At the annual Mothers vs Daughters match, the moms flogged daughters 26-13 led by Olivia LePlatte with 14 goals, Sharon Clarke eight and Veronica McDonald four. Cherryell McIntosh scored six, Nailah Coltes four, Nicola Small two and Rachel Dillion one for the daughters.

Joelisa Cooper was named Most Valuable Player of the league, whle the Golden Girl was Simone Morgan. San Juan Jabloteh won the Golden Ball tournament contested by “A1” Division teams.

Candice Regis (NFM Uppers) was crowned Miss PoSNL at the queen pageant ahead of Janique Francois (Horizon) and Sonia Robinson (Harlem).
