Shazard’s inquest reassuring

In advance one must take issue with the reported view that to bring a homicide charge against the Coast Guard officer, the State must prove that he intended to kill Mohammed. This determination is in the jurisdiction of the Court and not the investigating officers, one would think. Innocent Shazard is dead from a Coastguard bullet.

The tragedy to Shazard’s family must not be allowed by Government to fester into civil discontent. Urgent attention must be given to compensation, reparation and sincere sympathy for the bereaved family.

The growing consensus of police insensitivity and criminality has not been assuaged by the outrageous report of Assistant Pundit Rabindranath Choon assault.

It is clear that neither Shazard nor Rabindranath is a criminal type. That the public must now routinely face threat from our protective services in addition to that from criminal elements is cause for grave concern.

The recent Police dedication to getting their man must now be brought to bear on behalf of Shazard and Rabindranath.
