Short story competition on Caribbean folklore figures

Contestants must do some field research and then write imaginative, short stories based on personal encounters with these folklore figures. The prize-money for first place is $1,000, second place is $600 and third place, $400. All winners will be given certificates and their works will be published in a book with illustrations on Caribbean East Indian folklore.

Writers can choose any one of the topics and more than one entry will be accepted. The competition is open to all age groups.

Authors must include the name of the folklore figure in the subject line of their stories.

The style and language must be suitable for a mixed audience.

The contest began August 1 and ends on September 22.

Entries must be entirely the original work of the author. The competition requires manuscripts to be not more than 3,000 words and must be in English. Contest entries will be judged by a panel. The criteria for judging will be based on research, creativity, authenticity, interest and style. Prize winners will be notified once judging is completed.

Worldwide copyright of each entry remains with the author, but Chakra Publish-ing House must have the irrevocable royalty-free lice-nce to reproduce, publish, adapt and perform all or part of the entries in any form or media.
