Cable thieves shot by guard
According to reports, the guard saw the two men — aged 23 and 34 — cutting the cables, at about 1.45 am at By Pass Road in Arima.
When the guard called out to the men, they turned their cutlasses on him. The officer drew his service revolver and shot both men, hitting them in the chest.
A report was made to the Arima police and the injured men were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope where they were treated and remain warded under police guard.
Local telecom provider TSTT has announced an aggressive plan to deal with the increasing spate of cable thefts which in recent time, has cost the company millions of dollars in lost revenue and repairs and also left thousands of customers without a regular telephone supply.
