Mixed results for Clarke Road on tour in Guyana

In their opening match against Cornelia Ida, the Penal-based Clarke Road romped to an emphatic 93-run triumph.

They skittled the host club for 46 in 15 overs with Varma Ramkissoon claiming four wickets for nine runs while Christon Harris chipped in with three for 11.

Earlier on the day, Clarke Road posted 139 for eight off their allotted 30 overs with Mahadeo Moonesar hitting 43, captain Alan Mahabir, 35, and Mikhail Ruiz, 30.

But the joy was shortlived when they were trounced by eight wickets against the Georgetown Cricket Club’s Under-19 team. Mahabir struck an unbeaten 62 while Dave Roopnarine contributed 24 as Clarke Road reached 127 for five in 25 overs. The hosts had little trouble in responding with 131 for two in 21 overs, with B Bacchus scoring 43 and West Indies Under-19 captain Leon Johnson making 41.

Their final match against Ghandi Youth Organisation was a low-scoring affair, with Clarke Road being bundled out for 72 in 26 overs despite 16 by Mahabir.

F Samad did the most damage for Ghandi Youth with figures of three for 19.

While Harris snared two wickets for 21 runs, Ghandi Youth replied with 76 for four in 15.2 overs with K Alphonso hitting an undefeated 33.

This was Clarke Road’s third overseas tour, after visiting Toronto, Canada in 2003 and Florida, United States in 2005.
