Nine killed in seven days

The killing spree began last Sunday, when 25-year-old Daniel Raymond and 22-year-old Peter Moore, both of Second Caledonia in Morvant, were shot by gunmen while sitting in a driveway.

The very next day, 23-year-old Shimba Simon was killed at his Spring Valley, Mt D’Or Road home, when gunmen broke down his front door and shot him.

That same day, the decomposing body of accountant Sean Christopher Taylor was found by three hunters on a teak plantation.

Taylor had apparently been bludgeoned and strangled and the body was clad only in underwear, with the hands and legs bound. The body was in such a state of decomposition that Taylor’s mother only identified the body by the teeth and by a wristwatch.

On Tuesday, an Arima maxi-taxi driver became the country’s next murder victim, after a scuffle with a relative led to Arthur Mc Leod being stabbed in the shoulder. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Arima Health Facility.

Two days later, the body of 51-year-old Robert Ramnath was found near a pumping jack with wounds to the face.

Police believe Ramnath took his killers to the location to conduct business but for some reason, was killed.

Ramnath’s family was alerted by police when his abandoned Datsun 280-C was found at Rancho Quemado Village.

The search that followed, led to the body’s discovery.

At about 7.45 that same night, 29-year-old Acawu Cromwell got into a fight with another man while working at the Barana Seafoods fish processing plant.

The man stabbed Cromwell several times about the body before fleeing the scene. Cromwell was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On Friday, three men were killed in separate incidents. At about 10.45 am, 41-year-old contractor Ian Brown of St Barbs, Laventille was working at a house at Chocolate Alley, Gon-zales, when he was approached by a gunman who shot him once in the chest.

At almost the same time, 45-year-old David Joseph of Ramkissoon Trace, St Augustine, was at home when gunmen broke down the front door and shot Joseph in the chest.

Police believe his death may have been a case of mistaken identity.

Then, at about7 pm, Curtis Greaves, a 25-year-old Petit Valley resident, was killed when a gunman fired several shots at him as he stood in the Valley Harps Panyard on Morne Coco Road.
