RAINS FAIL TO STOP MARCH

Former Attorney General, Ramesh Lawerence Maharaj, deputy Political Leader of the United National Congress Austin Jack Warner, led the march to Mon Repos Junction, but through a heavy downpour of rain.

Today, the Civil Rights Association-sponsored march is expected to reach Charlieville Junction.

The march began in Cedros last week Friday, but yesterday the rain wreaked havoc on the march through Penal and Debe.

It was around mid-morning when the heavy showers came.

While people wound up car windows and others fled indoors, the marchers were seen snaking through Debe drenched in rain. They kept a steady pace, however, despite the rains which beat down on their bodies.

And unlike their shouts of “No smelter plant in Chatham”, yesterday’s march was a solemn walk of about 100 men and women through the downpour. The numbers were much less than what they started off with in Cedros.
