TT’s Clarke injured, beaten in ITF title match

Bacchus beat Clarke when the Caribbean player retired injured in the second set 0-2 down, after Bacchus won the first comfortably at 6-3 at the Saint Lucia Racquet Club this past weekend.

Nicole Monteiro, of the Netherlands, took the Girls’ Under-18 title, defeating Janique Jessurun of Suriname in a one-sided final 6-1, 6-0.

Hannah Berner and Mia Fiocca of the United States emerged Girls’ Under-18 doubles winners with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Monteiro and Alexa Wimes of the United States 6-1, 6-2.

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Corey Huggins and Kirk DaSilva had an easy walk over in the Boys’ Under-18 doubles when their opponents Clarke and Bacchus retired 0-15 early in the first set. In the Under-14 singles category Aaron Moses of Grenada took the Boys’ title beating Gian Issa of Suriname 6-3,6-2, while the Girls’ Under-14 was won by Suriname’s Nathalie Hew 6-2, 6-1 over Alicia Williams, of Antigua and Barbuda.

Victory in the Boys’ Under-14 doubles went to Fabrice George and Damani Taylor of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), fighting off a stiff challenge from the Grenadian pair of Jamal Chales and Moses 6-4, 7-5.

The Boys’ Under-12 title went to Corey Wilson of Grenada who beat compatriot Yannik James 6-2, 6-1.

The Under-12 Girls’ title went to Suriname’s Evita Ammersingh, who was taken to three sets by Trinidad and Tobago’s Taphenes Koroma before claiming victory 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

The Boys’ Under-12 doubles went to the Grenadian pair of James and Wilson, who beat the Surinamese brothers Joel and Rafael Lutchman in the final 6-2, 6-2, while the Under-12 Girls’ doubles crown was claimed by Antiguans Keishorea Armstrong and Chassidy King, who proved too much for Ammersingh and her Barbadian partner Melena Lopez. The Antiguans won 6-3, 6-0. In special awards announced at the end of the tournament St Lucia’s 13-year-old Kevin Deligny was declared most promising boy and Grenada’s Noami Brathwaite, most promising girl.

SVG’s Fabrice George won the sportsmanship award while the Girls’ equivalent award went to the American Fiocca.
