Child Care Inc celebrates 40th anniversary

Listed among the guests and well-wishers were Zalayhar Hassanali, Soroptimist International Port-of-Spain, President Glenda Charles-Harris, Dr Vernon Atherley-Rowe, Dr Innet Cambridge, Dr and Mrs Milton McDowall.

At this function Kendell Rawle Richardson who placed first in General Paper in the Advanced Level Examination 2004, and Brenston Francois who placed first in History in the Advanced Level Examination 2005, were awarded with plaques from the organisation for their outstanding performance. The special issue of the organisation’s magazine Our Children carries an article written by Richardson “When will we learn from our mistakes” and a poem “Cry of Youth”. He was the winner of the 1997 Clico International Poetry Day Schools Competition. And another article was written by Irancois “Advice To The Youth.”

With the master of ceremonies, Marilyn Clarke-Jones, patrons were treated to a delightful evening of song, dance and motivational poems from Catherine McIntyre, Amoy Ching Pang, Ade Murai and Josanne Phillip-Smith (better known as Simplicity).

Among those presented with plaques for their outstanding and selfless contribution to the organisation’s cause over the 40 years were: two Past Presidents — Dr Joan Kazim and Winifred Rose, Dr Milton McDowall (Trustee), Jacqueline Callender (Past Executive Secretary), Julia Rose and Dr Nesta Patrick, who delivered the feature address at the 40th Annual General Meeting. The theme of her topic was “The Family In These Changing Times.”

Other members were presented with certificates of recognition for dedicated service rendered through the years, also students on the Sponsorship Programme who have done exceedingly well.

Members elected to serve on the executive for the 2006-2008 term are: Ruth Antoine (President), Winifred Rose (Vice President), Judy Davis-Ruggles (Assistant Secretary), Bernice Cozier (Treasurer), Members: Ima Trimmingham, Linda Ryan-Wilson, Hyacinth Thomas, Carol Charles, Dr Innet Cambridge and Mr Heathcliff Renaud. Dr Milton McDowell and Ms Margaret Rose (Trustees) and Jacqueline Callender (Coordinator). Members participated at a Thanksgiving Service held at the All Saints Anglican Church, which was officiated by Canon Claude Berkley. Clarke-Jones (Immediate Past President) spoke briefly on the work of the Council over the years and Joycelyn Sealey rendered in song “If I Could Help Somebody”.
