Gunmen kill 4

According to police reports, at about 9.30 pm, the two masked men appeared from the bushes and opened fire on the group of men.

Three of the men died on the spot. Ravello was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility where he succumbed to his injuries. Residents in the area immediately notified the E999 Rapid Response Unit. Scotland Yard detectives were also at the scene early yesterday morning.

Sonia Jason, Gibson’s daughter, told Sunday Newsday that she had appealed to her father to stay home that night.

“My father was a quiet man, he only went down the road to buy a pack of cigarettes,” Jason cried, “I told him to stay home and watch television with us.” Gibson made a living as a mason and joiner. Nelson’s mother, Francis Nelson said she was going to get justice for the death of her son.

“Chris went to buy a loaf of bread and probably got caught up in the domino game,” Mrs Nelson said. Nelson had just come home from work at the University of the West Indies, where he was a shuttle bus driver.

Andre Eli, said that his father, an employee of the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation, only stepped out for a few minutes.

“My father had been grieving since our mother died of cancer. He always wanted to be out of the house,” Eli said.

Ravello’s family members could not believe that anyone would want to kill innocent men.

Ravello was an avid footballer, who made a living as a barber in the community.

Joan Hamlet, Ravello’s mother-in-law, said that the murders were senseless.

“What is happening to our children? I had to run and hide in bushes when I saw the men,” Hamlet said.

Residents said that they heard Ravello shouting, “What is it you men want? If it is money, here!” before he and the others were shot dead. Eyewitnesses said that less than 15 minutes before the shooting, 300 feet from the killings, the two gunmen were seen chasing a resident through the bushes.

“I heard some noises and heard a bullet fly pass my head, I then ran and hid under a peas tree for cover,” a resident said.

The resident claimed that they saw a man being pursued. The man then ran off in the bushes, and two men dressed in black came out of the darkness, and then opened fire on the group of men.

Meanwhile, according to police reports, at about 11 am, officers attached to the Belmont Police Station received an anonymous call that there was a body at Lady Young Road, in Belmont.

When the officers responded to a call, the body of Stanley Correia, 70, of St Joseph, was found lying in a drain. Correia’s car was parked in an easterly direction and he was lying in front of the car, on the ground. Officers are investigating the mysterious cause of death. Police officers said that Correia’s death could have been a road fatality.

The murder toll now stands at 251.
