TT IS not SOUTH Africa

He is now rambling in the ruins of his party after facing the end of his political career incarcerated and apparently facing more of the same with top members of his organisation.

It is a frightening episode in the colourful career of this politician, well known for his charisma, but it is feared that his charm has been replaced by a more level-headed, calm approach of his former colleague, a man not given to wild exhortations to capture audience and not prone to view violence as the means to an end.

Surely this is not the attitude of a sober-minded leader who has seen in the world around the bloody result of this course of action. His reference to Ghandi and Mandela is totally irrelevant because this land is TT and is not divided as India is, nor is it fragmented as South Africa was. This is TT and the MO is different! No! No! Mr Panday, it won’t work in TT, no divide and rule in this land! Don’t try that.

Violent protest is the inevitable end which he and his followers would resort to with the least provocation.
