‘Pretty Little Summer Princess’

Contestants participating in the pageant are Pia Chattergoon, six; Dana Chinapoo, six; Shanea Jacobs; five Marian Lewis, six; Jann Moore, five; Rachael Charles, seven; Hazel Ann Ramnath, six; Denisha Mc Kenzie, six; Garcelle Mc Kenzie, six; Kelifer Campbell, six and Kisaquye Ramsey, six.

The pageant is being hosted by the Marabella Unemployment and Welfare Committee.

The committee’s president Junior Calliste is the brainchild behind the pageant which is aimed at encouraging young people, between the ages of five and ten, to become involved in positive programmes. Such programmes, Calliste said, will help mould the youngsters’ minds to the positive attributes of life as they grow older.

“The more their brains are working, the less trouble they would get themselves in,” he said.

Calliste of La Borde Lane, Marabella, a father of two, has devoted himself to community life. He is also a successful proprietor and instrument fitter by trade. The committee’s founder Gloria Calliste described Calliste as a trademark in the community. “He is very respectable, honest, hardworking and one who always makes time to listen to someone’s cries,” Gloria said.

Calliste (J) served with the Marabella Nets Basketball Club as its trustee, from 1987 to 1995.

“I want to be an instrument in transforming this country to a better place. To do this I must start with the youths of tomorrow – the future generation,” he said.

Allan Ward was the first individual to capture the title in the “Pretty Little Summer Princess”pageant.
