Taxi driver on assault charge

Junior Paul, 35, of Riley Settlement, North Oropouche Road, was yesterday placed on $85,000 bail with surety by a Sangre Grande magistrate.

Paul was held on Tuesday night by Cpl Joshua. Paul, who plies his car for hire from Oropouche to Sangre Grande, was stopped by a student of Guaico Government School.

She entered his car and he drove off. Paul allegedly began to touch the student on her private parts. She began to cry and he stopped. The girl reported the incident to her parents and was taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station, where a report was filed.

WPC Gorra investigated and a charge of indecent assault was laid. A warrant was executed for the arrest of Paul, who was held on Tuesday and taken to court.

He is to reappear on August 30, 2006.
