Two robbery suspects held

A National Security helicopter was called in to assist in the chase. According to police reports, the two suspects hired a car at the Pinto Road taxi stand in Arima at 2 pm. The two youths then turned a gun on the driver and ordered him to drive, but he later crashed the car near Santa Rosa Heights. The young men left the vehicle and then stole another car in the area, police said.

Witnesses immediately notified the E999 Rapid Response Unit. The car was spotted driving through Santa Rosa when the officers gave chase and called for back up. The area was cordoned off and the men were subsequently held by the police.

No one was seriously injured in the incident.

A firearm was seized at the scene of the accident and the car was impounded by police.

The men are due to appear at the Arima Magistrates’ Court today.

Arima police are investigating.
