COPS SEIZE $1.5M GANJA IN MAXI

The driver and a passenger in the vehicle — two men ages 24 and 30 of Caroni, were detained by police in the drug bust.

Members of the Crime Suppression Unit, headed by Ag Inspectors Singh and Mohammed, led a party of police officers along the Guapo Main Road.

Police caused the maxi to stop and upon conducting a search of the vehicle, found six crocus bags. A police report stated that the bags contained 158 kilogrammes of cured marijuana which were wrapped in one-kilogramme packets.

Police said that the marijuana carries a street value of $1.5 million. The two men in the vehicle who were arrested, were expected to be charged yesterday with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. They are expected to appear in the Point Fortin Magistrates’ Court today.
