Great Race action

The race itself comes off tomorrow, but the customary pre and post-race fetes combine to make it one of the most exciting weekends entertainment-wise for the party goers – who make it plain that Tobago is the place to be this weekend.

Of course, as it has been over the years, apart from the avid boating enthusiasts, the race is merely incidental to the partying festivities, especially the finish line at Store Bay which provides a natural, exciting backdrop to the giant street/beach party that would have been in swing all night.

Also, the Great Race Queen contest comes off tomorrow at Conrado Beach Resort Hotel, Pigeon Point.

The south-west end becomes a literal beehive of entertainment activity, with the partying not only confined to Store Bay, but including the adjacent Crown Point area tomorrow night and the lagniappe Mt Irvine beach party, near Black Rock, on Sunday.

For those looking for top-class calypso/steelband there is tomorrow night’s Skiffle Bunch, bmobile Our Boys and the Mighty Stalin concert at Fort Street, uptown Scarborough (as you wind your way up to Fort George, near the hospital).

With the visitors coming in droves, congestion is usually the order of the day both at the Port--of-Spain and the Scarborough Ports, as well as at Piarco and Crown Point airports. Invariably, most take it in stride as part of the “culture” of the Great Race weekend in Tobago.
