PRIVATE CRIME HOTLINE FOR CHAGUANAS

The founder of the project is former PNM candidate for the area, Ian Allen.

Allen is calling on residents to report criminal activities immediately as “effective crime fighting could only come through active community participation in the reporting of criminal activities.”

Allen made his point while addressing the launch of the hotline at the Centre Pointe Mall, Chaguanas.

Allen said the objectives of the Crime Plan were aimed at promoting integrated action of key government and non government partners to reduce crime and victimisation; establishing community-based solutions to problems that contribute to crime and victimisation of children and women; to increase public awareness of and support for effective approaches to crime prevention and reduction and to increase public reassurance.

Allen said the Crime Watch Committee was the watchdog of the area acting as a lobby group to get increased patrols for the area.

He said the Crime Watch Committee would be meeting with community leaders, NGOs, Religious leaders and other interested group to adopt a strong problem solving approach to help in reducing and preventing criminal activities in Chaguanas.

He said a neighbourhood watch programme would be implemented to encourage active community participation and strengthen community bonds.

TTPost will also be delivering 20,000 crime watch stickers free of charge to the various households in the swiftly growing central borough.
