Man faces charges in US

Jason Errol Percival, of Lower Santa Cruz, stood before Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicolls in the Port-of-Spain Eighth Magis-trates’ Court charged with Maharaj’s kidnapping. After the charges were read out to him, Percival appeared on the witness stand, where he told the court he had decided on his own free will to be extradited.

The magistrate then ordered that Percival be remanded in the custody of the Director of Homicide Bureau. He was charged and arrested by Sgt Wendell Williams of Interpol.

Percival is jointly charged with Sgt Leon Nurse, Private Ricardo De Four, Winston Gittens and Zion Clarke, who are wanted in the US for the abduction of Maharaj, who was snatched while liming at Samaan Tree Bar in Aranjuez on April 6, 2005.

His remains were found in two barrels at Grande Curacaye, Santa Cruz, on January 8, 2006. Attorney Cecil Pope represented the accused.
