Govt brings State lands law

The purpose of the bill is to increase the penalties against persons who dig or remove materials on or from State lands without a licence. This legislation is a follow-up from earlier commitments by Prime Minister Patrick Manning, Special Anti-crime Unit director Brigadier Peter Joseph, and Saith’s immediate predecessor Eric Williams to clamp down on illegal quarrying activities.

The Lower House will also continue debate on the Pilotage (Amendment) Bill 2006 today.

The Winston Dookeran faction of the UNC has a plethora of Opposition questions scheduled for the Government today. Dookeran will question Local Government Minister Rennie Dumas, Planning and Development Minister Camille Robinson-Regis, and Works and Transport Minister Colm Imbert about the Point Fortin market, compensation for Oropune residents and coastal erosion in South-West Trinidad.

Chaguanas MP Manohar Ramsaran will seek answers from Health Minister John Rahael, Education Minister Hazel Manning and Sports Minister Roger Boynes about the construction of a new Chaguanas health facility, plans to construct early childhood care and education centres in the constituency, completion date for the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, and the sum of money disbursed to the TT Football Federation during the 2006 World Cup campaign.
