Baksh: Mark misleading EBC

Mark, UNC CEO Dr Tim Gopeesingh and Fyzabad MP Chandresh Sharma met with EBC chairman Dr Norbert Masson and CEO Howard Cayenne at the EBC’s Frederick Street offices in Port-of-Spain.

After the meeting, Mark told journalists that the UNC alerted the EBC to reports that Dookeran was planning to launch a party with a name and symbol that closely resembled those of the UNC. In a statement, Baksh said Mark has established a reputation for going on Hansard and other public records with “totally fictious statements” that were designed to discredit prominent people in the society. “He has done it again with the false allegations to the EBC and the media that Winston Dookeran has formed and registered or caused to be formed and registered on his behalf a political organisation called the NNC,” Baksh stated.

Dookeran yesterday confirmed that he has not registered a new political party with the EBC.

The former senator also dismissed Mark’s claim that the symbol of the reported party closely resembled the rising sun symbol of the UNC.

Baksh said while the “panic and desperation” of the cabal within the UNC is understandable, Mark should not allow himself to be used to spread false propaganda “aimed at discrediting honorable persons in the society.”

Baksh added that: “The cabal is free to hold on to a party’s name and symbol which is all they are left with since they lost the membership of the UNC and the respect and trust of the rest of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”
