FREEPORT Dad SHOT DEAD

According to a police report, it was at about 9.45 pm when Jagna, 37, walked into the club and began speaking to the proprietor of the bar. The report stated that a man wearing a mask over his head then walked in. A loud explosion was heard and Jagna fell to the ground. The gunman, police said, managed to escape by running out of the bar and running along a narrow unlit path opposite the club. A patron telephoned the Freeport Police Station and within minutes, officers from the Rapid Response Unit responded.

Ag Insp Quamina, Cpl Hosein, Cpl Noyan and PC Ragoo attached to the Freeport CID, visited the scene and carried out preliminary inquiries.

Jagna, who was bleeding profusely from the chest, was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility and then transferred to the Eric Williams Sciences Medical Complex. He was pronounced dead on arrival. Jagna was recently employed at Nu-Iron Trinidad and Tobago Company Ltd, Point Lisas Industrial Estate, as a rigger.

When Newsday visited Jagna’s residence yesterday, his wife, Dara Titus-Jagna, 27, a seven-month pregnant mother expecting her third child, was crying uncontrollably. Her two daughters – Shaneeka, nine and Shanice, six, were hugging her. Titus-Jagna told Newsday that she hadn’t a clue why someone would have wanted her husband dead.

“I know Sam (Jagna) as a good fella; loved by everybody and one who was family oriented. He loved his two daughters and with a baby on the way, he was working very hard to make the necessary accommodations for the baby,” she said.

“All I know is that my husband went to the bar to sell the owner two bags of cement he had at home,” Titus-Jagna said.

She said that her husband had recently begun attending the Tabernacle of Christ Church in Chandanagore and had planned to get baptised later this year. Police officers attached to the Homicide Department (South) are investigating.
