SEVEN PERSONS GET ‘INDEPENDENCE’ HOUSES

The MGUO is a non-profit organisation based in Mayaro, whose members conduct charitable work and organise educational, cultural and sporting events.

MGUO took the task of building seven houses in —Mafeking, Guayaguayare, Radix, Grand Lagoon, Newlands, Union Village and Pynvale Street. Speaking to Newsday yesterday, MGUO’s central executive chairman, Matthew Pierre, said that the organisation gave a gift to seven persons who could not afford a home.

Among the recipients were Uriah Piggot, who is visually impaired; Lochan Seebaran, who is physically disabled, and Laura Williams, an 82- year- old mother who has a mentally challenged son. Pierre said that Williams and her son were recently evicted from their home.

“So the MGUO had to come to their rescue,” Pierre said. Junior Browne, a mother of eight, Charmine Bonie, Amy Mahabir and Lydia Rovello, were also presented with keys to new homes at the handing over ceremony which took place at the Mayaro Recreation Ground on Independence Day, Thursday, “This project will continue.

We are trying to help as many people as we can,” Pierre said. He urged the citizens of the nation to get involved and help those who could not help themselves. Pierre said that people were free to donate building materials to the MGUO.
