SWWTU calls for specialist probe

SWWTU executive yesterday held an emergency meeting and a media briefing at the SWWTU Hall, Wrightson Road. Annisette said the container which exploded had residue of liquid ethylene and the fact that it continued to burn after 3.30 pm “clearly demonstrated” that the container was not purged in keeping with international standards.

Annisette said the container was delivered to Atlantic on August 16 and returned to Pt Lisas on August 22 for shipment. He said it was the responsibility of Atlantic LNG to ensure the container was “purged” before returning it to Pt Lisas for shipment.
