Last eight spots up for grabs

The action will be at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar when at 5 pm United Petrotrin play table-proppers Tobago United in the first match of a double-header.

The second match will involve Defence Force against Starworld Strikers.

The winners of today’s matches will progress to the quarter-finals of the First Citizens Cup where they will clash with bmobile Joe Public and CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh respectively.

Petrotrin will fancy their chances of progressing to the last eight as they have enjoyed the better of exchanges against Tobago.

Tobago United held the “Oilmen” to a 1-1 draw the first time they met this season, but Petrotrin came away 2-0 winners in the second round of the league competition. Coached by former national defender Brian Williams, Petrotrin will be hoping they can create some upsets this year in the First Citizens Cup and will want to keep Tobago United winless.

Peter Granville, coach of Tobago United has his work cut out for him as his team has failed to win a single match this season and sits squarely at the bottom of the standings with three points. The boys from the sister isle will have to hope for some luck, if they are to move on today in the First Citizens Cup.

The winners will face San Juan Jabloteh in the quarter-finals.

In the evening’s second encounter, Defence Force will feel they have the edge on Starworld Strkers.

The Army, past winners of the First Citizens Cup, will aim to cause some problems for their opponents, despite their unimpressive position in the league standings.

The Tetron-based team blasted Starworld 5-1 when they last met in the league and coincidentally, these two teams met in the Courts Pro Bowl qualifier this year, where the Army once again came out on top. The winners of this match up will meet league leaders Joe Public in the quarter-finals.
