Protestor in court

The man was arrested near his home at Lower Barrackpore at about 10 am yesterday, police reports stated. He was charged with using obscene language and resisting arrest, police said. Protests in Barrackpore began as early as 4 am yesterday with residents from various villages calling on the government to repair the roads.

Villagers blocked several major roadways in Penal and Barrackpore by burning tyres and laying debris across the roads.
